We’ve worn and reviewed hundreds of sustainable clothing brands — these are our favorite silk (and silk alternative!) skirts that are easy to wear, maintain, and use thoughtful production practices across price range.
As florals begin to bloom, allergies begin to soar, and evenings get warmer and warmer, we’re updating our closets with lighter, more breathable fabrics. And that’s why silk is at the top of our list — it’s hypoallergenic and naturally thermoregulating so you won’t feel too hot or too cold as the day’s temps fluctuate.
With that in mind, we’ve rounded up nine brands with silk midis, maxis, minis, and skorts to add to your capsule collection this spring. (And if you’re interested in silk alternatives, we’ve got those in mind, too!) Whether you throw on boots, sandals, a cardigan, or a cami, a silk skirt will always feel elevated and easy.
Why choose sustainable silk?
Silk is considered a protein fiber, derived from silkworms’ cocoons. Unfortunately, many silk producers end up killing or harming the silkworms in the process, so we prefer to look at brands using more ethical production practices. Ahimsa silk, for example, allows the silkworms to hatch from their cocoons and be free rather than killing them.
The brands below sustainably source their silk, use recycled materials for silk blends, or avoid silk altogether with silk alternatives like crepe woven fabric or cotton-modal blends.
